How do I take action?
Making the decision to advocate for policy change is the first step, but there is more to effective advocacy than just passion. You’ll need to learn exactly how to be an effective advocate, make use of support and coaching resources, and figure out how you can connect with other advocates to amplify your impact.
1. Learn How to Be an Advocate
a. Complete the Be Our Voice Online Advocacy Training Course in order to learn essential advocacy skills.
b. Build an Advocacy Plan to help you define your goals and narrow your focus so you can be an effective advocate. You will create an Advocacy Plan as part of the online course, but you can also use the example in the Advocacy Toolbox, too.
2. Support and Coaching
a. Access Technical Assistance Resources that can help you navigate specific pieces of your advocacy work.
b. Attend our monthly Advocacy Plenary Calls to participate in discussions with fellow advocates and learn about new ways to further your advocacy.
c. Explore our Resource Library to find toolkits, articles, data, and more that can help you achieve your adovcacy goals.
3. Connect and Integrate
a. Find other advocates in your area who are interested in the same issues and join connect with them to increase the impact of your efforts.
b. Join our email listserv to get advice from the Be Our Voice community and participate in discussions relevant to your advocacy work.
