Expanded Portfolio Inches NICHQ Closer to Vision

At NICHQ, we focus our energies on work within the three areas we believe are most critical for reaching our vision that all children achieve their optimal health. These are (1) giving children a strong start; (2) ensuring that the healthcare system addresses the needs of all children and their families; and (3) improving healthy living practices, policies and conditions.
A strong start often begins with a comprehensive infant screening program. NICHQ is thrilled to have been awarded a new project that expands the reach in this area:
- NewSteps 360 Newborn Screening Initiative: This Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)-funded initiative supports a unique national collaboration to identify local barriers to timely newborn screening and help states strategize and implement solutions using continuous quality improvement approaches.
NICHQ also recently received two new projects that continue our long-standing support of children and youth with special healthcare needs:
- Sickle Cell Disease Newborn Screening Program: This HRSA-funded program aims to identify patients with sickle cell disease and link them to high quality care within their communities.
- Florida Learning and Action Network and Asthma Care Teams Program: In two concurrent Center for Disease Control and Prevention-funded projects, NICHQ is helping the Florida Department of Public Health progressively expand sustainable and comprehensive asthma control services.
With each project, and with the support of our fantastic partners, we’re inching closer to NICHQ’s vision of a world where all children achieve their optimal health.
