A closer look at the lesser-known aspects of ASD.
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder, the origins of which are still unclear. Individuals with autism are commonly characterized by impaired social interaction, delayed and disordered language, repetitive behavior and a restricted range of interest. Physical symptoms, including gastrointestinal disorders and insomnia, are also common in children with autism, though they are less well-known. In this infographic, entitled "Autism Uncovered: A Closer Look at the Lesser-Known Aspects of ASD," NICHQ shares information about the lesser-known aspects of ASD and what NICHQ is doing to address them so that children with ASD experience better care.
