NICHQ Board of Directors Welcomes Two New Members
Two new members have been elected to NICHQ’s board of directors. Dolores Acevedo-Garcia, Ph.D., MPA-URP, and Gregory Serrao both bring unique skills and experiences in improving healthcare services and social determinants of health and health equity for children and underserved populations.
Dolores Acevedo-Garcia, Ph.D., MPA-URP
Dolores Acevedo-Garcia, Ph.D., MPA-URP, is a professor at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management, and Director of the Institute for Child, Youth and Family Policy at Brandeis University. Her research focuses on the social determinants (e.g. residential segregation, immigrant adaptation) of racial/ethnic inequities in health, the role of social policies (e.g. housing policies, immigrant policies) in reducing those inequities, and the health and well-being of children with special needs. Dr. Acevedo-Garcia is the project director for diversitydatakids.org, a comprehensive research program and indicator database on child well-being and opportunity by race/ethnicity across multiple sectors and geographies. She is also an investigator and member of the Steering Committee on the Housing and Children’s Healthy Development Study.
Gregory Serrao is the founder, chairman, president and CEO of Thrive Skilled Pediatric Care (Thrive), a provider of pediatric home care services to children with special healthcare needs. Prior to Thrive, Mr. Serrao founded American Dental Partners, Inc. (ADPI), and served as the company's CEO, president and a director for 20 years. In July, 2015, Mr. Serrao transitioned from CEO and president to the executive chairman of ADPI, and is currently the chairman of ADPI. Previously, he served as the president of National Specialty Services Inc. and vice president of corporate development at Cardinal Health.
“With their impressive and diverse skills in improving healthcare and reaching underserved populations, Dr. Acevedo-Garcia and Mr. Serrao bring critical expertise for NICHQ to continue improving children’s health,” says NICHQ CEO Scott Berns, MD, MPH, FAAP. “We’re delighted to welcome such innovative health leaders to our board.”
