What is the Obesity Prevention Advocacy Training course?
This e-learning course was developed by NICHQ's Be Our Voice initiative in concert with our National Partners at the American Academy of Pediatrics & the California Medical Association Foundation. This interactive course is designed to help train healthcare professionals to become advocates for policy changes impacting overweight and obesity in children in their communities. The content of this course was taken from the Be Our Voice Advocacy Resource Guide and Advocacy Toolbox.

What is the 'Interview The Advocates' lesson? 
Interview The Advocates is a lesson that consists of a video-based question and answer system with videos of real trained advocates answering questions about getting started and sustaining advocacy work. This lesson is meant to be a resource for learners who may have additional questions about being an advocate for childhood obesity policy change. 

How long does the Obesity Prevention Advocacy Trainingcourse take to complete? 
The course takes approximately three and a half hours to complete.

Do I need to complete the Obesity Prevention Advocacy Training course in one sitting? 
No, you do not need to complete the course in one sitting. Your progress will be saved automatically throughout the course so that, if you do exit before completing a section, your previous work will be accessible the next time you log on.

Do I need to be a healthcare professional to take the Obesity Prevention Advocacy Training course? 
The Obesity Prevention Advocacy Training is designed for healthcare professionals from a variety of backgrounds, including physicians, nurses/nurse practitioners, health educators, nutritionists, dietitians, midwives, and pharmacists. However, non-healthcare providers have also been trained using the curriculum and have found it helpful to learn how to augment their own advocacy efforts by partnering with healthcare providers in their communities. This includes teachers, legislators, community leaders, graduate students, child care providers, and physical education specialists.

Why should I take the Obesity Prevention Advocacy Trainingcourse? 
As a healthcare professional, you see the toll the childhood obesity epidemic is taking. You may feel frustrated by spending time educating families about the importance of physical activity only to hear local schools have slashed time outside the classroom. You may discuss the need to eat a healthy diet only to hear that your patients and clients don't have a grocery store in their neighborhood. The solutions to these problems are outside your office, and with the training and tools provided in this course, you'll be prepared to tackle them.

How do I take the Obesity Prevention Advocacy Trainingcourse? 
The Course Introduction lesson provides step-by-step instructions on how to navigate the course and gives a detailed overview of the lessons and their structure.

I'm only interested in one lesson of the Obesity Prevention Advocacy Training course. Can I access and complete just one lesson? 
Yes!

Do I have to complete the lessons in the order they are listed? 
Not necessarily. Although every learner should complete the Course Introduction lesson first, the other three lessons may be completed in a different order.
